South Dakota is home to quite a number of amazing places; however, Mount Rushmore should be high on anyone’s list of "must see" locations. This Shrine to Democracy features an amazing amount of history, dedication, artistic skill and sheer audacity.Mount Rushmore rises 5,000 feet above sea level and features the heads of four of America’s most famous presidents. Visitors will gaze in awe at the enormous visages of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt. This national monument has been called a "shrine to the living America" and embodies the hopes and dreams for democracy by all peoples around the globe.In addition to being a truly awesome sight, the area is also home to a wonderful National Park. Visitors can find numerous ways to explore the area, from ranger guided hikes to sculpture classes and lighting ceremonies held at night. The amphitheater is home to numerous classes and exhibits, though simply enjoying the stunning natural beauty of the area is enormously popular. A visit to Mount Rushmore is more than simply viewing a manmade wonder; nature’s hand is everywhere, as well.
