Understanding the difference between Diabetes Insipidus and Diabetes Mellitus

In order to know what applies to diabetes insipidus treatment, one must understanding the difference between diabetes insipidus (DI) and diabetes mellitus (DM).
DI is water diabetes, while its counterpart is known as sugar diabetes. The only similarities between the two are some of the symptoms which include excessive thirst and excessive urination.
The two common forms of DM are type-1 and type-2 diabetes and occur more often than DI. The cycle of DI causes frequent urination, which is diluted and patients feel the urge to drink large amounts of water to make up for the loss.
A patient’s bodily functions must be closely monitored in order to receive the proper diabetes insipidus treatment. The disease is not deadly, but severe complications and discomfort may occur.
